Background
Last year, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust needed to review their nursing supply. The trust engaged with NHS Workforce Alliance, as the Alliance already had a track record of supporting a neighbouring trust in the region.
The Alliance supported the trust in exploring models of resourcing, helped the team deep dive into the processes and discussed what outcomes they wanted to achieve via this procurement.
Objectives
The main objective the trust wanted to achieve was:
• High quality compliant temporary supply
• Consistent fill improvements
• Cap compliancy.
In addition to the above strategic objectives, the Alliance supported the trust in working towards key service improvements such as:
• Automated timesheet process to move away from paper timesheets and go electronic
• Listening to the market via meaningful supplier engagement
• Developing a robust contract management with KPIs to mitigate ghost bookings, cancellations and no shows, and also value added KPIs to address their current issues with invoice and timesheet accuracy and incident management.
Outcome
“The Finance Committee was really positive and complimentary and said what a good piece of work it was, showing a robust process.” Kelly Willoughby, Deputy Director of Procurement at the trust, presented the award recommendation report to the Finance Committee.
“Supporting Salisbury was a really positive experience where we were able to engage with their senior stakeholders on the ‘art of the possible’ way before any decisions were made.” Munira Kachwala, Senior Category Manager at NHS Workforce Alliance
“Munira has supported the trust and the wider Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire, Integrated Care System (BSW ICS) immensely – being on hand to provide invaluable data and market knowledge that reinforced the decision making process, and ensured a suitable outcome for the organisation and its patients, whilst delivering value for money.”
“The complexity and challenges of implementing a new contract, regional rate compliance implementation and internal process and systems changes are huge and the Alliance continues to support the trust throughout this process and not just during the procurement process.” Beth Bartholomew, Deputy Head of Sourcing at the trust
