Planning for winter pressures

With the recent hot weather, it is hard to believe that it’s time to start planning for the staffing challenges that the colder months will bring. The NHS Workforce Alliance is here to work with our in-trust colleagues to ensure they have the tools, advice and solutions to address winter staffing pressures.

Workforce Improvement Services

As we head out of the summer, now is the ideal time to engage with the Alliance’s Workforce Improvement Services (WIS) framework. WIS can connect you with experienced workforce partners who will provide insight into areas where efficiencies and improvements can be made to get your workforce function ready for the coming months.

WIS suppliers can work with you to ensure that you are making the most of your agency staff while shifting spend to other solutions such as bank, permanent and international recruitment. Services offered under WIS are resource light, which means you won’t have to divert much-needed capacity while suppliers conduct their review.

Occupational Health

The Occupational Health function plays a key role in staff wellbeing and retention and making sure measures are in place to ensure staff are supported in their role.

Our Occupational Health, Employee Assistance Programmes and Eye Care Services framework can support trusts all year round but can particularly benefit teams as we head into winter – whether that’s using parts of the framework to supplement your trust’s own capacity or to use the framework in full.

Clinical and Healthcare Staffing

We know that agency is an important part of any workforce strategy, particularly when addressing winter pressures. Whether you’re looking for help with your workforce strategy or a specific procurement solution, we’ll give you open and honest advice, with expert support and guidance every step of the way.

Our Clinical and Healthcare Staffing framework can help ease pressure, offering the flexibility to incorporate service elements that meet your individual local and regional requirements. This framework enables organisations to procure medical and healthcare staff from one place, limiting confusion in the market and creating a streamlined process.

Together, we can address the extra staffing pressures brought on by the winter months. The NHS Workforce Alliance is here to help you develop a workforce strategy fit for today and tomorrow.
