IR35 webinar – off-payroll working

Off-payroll working is a very hot topic within the NHS at the moment, and through our interaction with trusts and agencies, NHS Workforce Alliance has noticed some emerging trends within the healthcare sector including inducements by agencies and umbrella companies, worker and umbrella company incorrect determinations, gross payments of workers as self-employed, and disguised renumeration.

NHS Workforce Alliance has been working with HMRC and the Tax Centre of Excellence to support our customers and provide examples of how best to manage off-payroll working issues.

Our recent webinar on the subject included input from the Tax Centre of Excellence outlining when off-payroll worker legislation applies, IR35 assessments and risks.

Colleagues from HMRC also provided insight on examples of tax avoidance and how to educate your workers on taxes to ensure they do not get caught out. They also provided an update on the cross-government Call for Evidence on the umbrella company market.

Copies of the slides from the off-payroll working (IR35) webinar are available on request from the NHS Workforce Alliance teams.

Support is available through the NHS Workforce Alliance. If you become aware of inappropriate practices or suspicious activity, you can report them to your NHS Workforce Alliance customer contact, HMRC Counter Avoidance or NHS Counter Fraud
