NHS England and NHS Improvement have announced funding opportunities to support the international recruitment of midwives as part of an ongoing programme to support improvements in maternity services and recent investment into maternity workforce.
Funding will be available to selected trusts and collaborations. Trusts will be asked to submit an initial expression of interest (EOI) to your regional International Recruitment lead and chief midwife indicating that you would like to take part in the bid process, your intention to bid and the organisations you plan to collaborate with, if applicable.
The funding will be allocated in two streams:
- Upfront funding of up to £4.5million nationally to be paid in 2021/22 to support you with your programme activity.
- Payment on arrival of midwives into the NHS of £7,000 per midwife.
Please submit a short EOI via email to your regional IR lead and regional chief midwife by 5pm on Friday 20 August 2021.

Please also note NHSEI are urgently reviewing hotel quarantine refunds. On 12th August 2021 rates for hotel quarantine increased to £2,285 for a single adult.
Currently only £1,000 per nurse arrival is available for trusts to claim. This funding is only agreed until end of September and NHSEI are exploring whether this can be extended. Further information will be issued in due course.
