The ‘Get to Know’ series showcases staff from around the NHS Workforce Alliance to give you a glimpse of the variety of roles in our organisation and the people who perform them.
This month, we’re pleased to introduce our new Category Manager – Rachel Plant.
What is your background?
I started my career in Procurement 11 years ago! I started out in the private sector in the manufacturing industry as a demand planner before moving into Procurement within local government. The last 5 years I have spent working in large acute NHS Trusts within their Contract Management teams specialising in Pathology and Corporate categories.
What is your role within the NHS Workforce Alliance and what does it involve?
My role is Category Manager – HR & People. My role involves supporting the NHS and other public organisations with their workforce needs through providing procurement solutions, advice and guidance and assistance utilising NHS Workforce Alliance frameworks.
Why are you passionate about this?
People are at the heart of all public sector organisations! Being able to support the NHS with their workforce challenges gives me great job satisfaction and gives me the opportunity to do ‘my bit’ for the NHS.
What was your first job and how has it impacted your career?
My first ever job was as a silver service waitress for my local Freemason Society. It gave me the opportunity to speak to senior members of society which helped me to develop great people and communication skills.
How would you spend a perfect day off?
My perfect day off would be a trip to the seaside with my husband, our 2 year old son and our dog ‘Boxer’. A lovely walk down the beach front, fish and chips, a few fairground rides and an ice cream!
