NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSEI) have announced funding available to NHS trusts and Integrated Care Systems to start or expand the international recruitment of nurses and allied health professionals (AHPs) in their organisation.
Please note that midwives are not included in the scope of the funding available for nurses.
The funding is available for the recruitment of overseas AHPs in the following professions:
- Diagnostic Radiographers
- Occupational Therapists
- Podiatrists
This funding supports overseas nurses arriving between 1 August 2022 to 31 December 2022, and AHPs arriving from July 2022 to March 2023.
AHP bids must be submitted by 5pm on 15 July 2022; expressions of interest for nurse funding must be completed by 5pm on 8 July 2022.
New funding is also available for up to 21 pilots (up to £75k per pilot) that aim to develop innovative approaches to accelerating the development of internationally educated nurses and midwives (IENMs). This funding supports IENMs that are either already working in the NHS or new arrivals. Proposals are encouraged to focus on direct recruitment of overseas nurses into roles Band 6 or above, or improve the development and progression of IENMs into more senior clinical and leadership roles.
Expressions of interest for the Accelerated Development Transformation Fund must be submitted to your regional international recruitment lead by 5pm on 29 June 2022.
Additional information on the AHP funding programme can be found here and information on funding for overseas nursing and IENM development can be found here.
As ever, please speak with your local NHS Workforce Alliance contact if you have questions on how we can support your international recruitment programme.
